We’re very saddened to share that the original adult female Eurasian beaver, introduced to Trentham Estate in Spring 2023, has died. Her body was found by our Wildlife Rangers on Tuesday 27th May.
This beaver was part of the first family translocated to Trentham as part of our restoration work to boost biodiversity and revive the historic landscape. She successfully bred in both 2023 and 2024, helping grow the population here to eight beavers. Her impact has been significant - creating vital habitats and supporting a healthier ecosystem.
A post-mortem will be conducted by the Zoological Society of London @officialzsl to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, the remaining seven beavers continue to thrive under close monitoring by our team.
Later this year, in collaboration with @BeaverTrust, we plan to translocate some of her - now adult - kits to other sites, continuing her legacy in restoring beaver populations across Britain.
Her story reminds us of the challenges - and importance - of rewilding work. Thank you for supporting this journey.

A giant whale landed at Trentham Shopping Village today – and wow, what a day it was! 🐋🌊
On Sunday 8 June, Trentham Shopping Village was transformed by the incredible Plastic Ocean show from @CircoRumBaBa – a magical mix of theatre, storytelling, laughter and learning, all inside a life-sized whale! 💙
🎭 Led by a wonderfully wacky Navigator, families dived into an unforgettable experience that brought the impact of plastic pollution to life in the most imaginative way.
🫶 A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it so special!
